Intellectual Property – or “IP” – is the legal rights you have in the things you create. Unlike other types of property, its value is in the underlying idea rather than a physical object. It can take many forms, such as patents (which protect the way things work); trade marks (which protect brands); designs (which protect the way things look); and copyright (which protects creative works such as photos, videos, paintings and books).
