Copyright is the IP right that you get, automatically, when you record your creative ideas – in words, music, pictures, videos, sculptures and all manner of other media. It protects you from having your work reproduced without your permission. Importantly, it only protects the way something’s actually recorded, not the underlying idea: the words in a book, for example, but not the storyline beneath.
