What is Summer of IP?
A hugely successful campaign comprising activities and events that aim to:
- encourage people to pursue a career in IP,
- raise awareness of IP-related careers among under-represented groups,
- improve diversity in the IP professions,
- provide individuals with practical experience of an IP workplace.
Why be involved?
* Help anyone, irrespective of their background, to access a career in IP.
* Encourage more upstream diversity, leading to a larger and more diverse pool of talent to recruit from in the future.
* Add value to the UK IP system, its users, and those employed within it by increasing the diversity of our workforce.
* Generate positive PR for your organisation and demonstrate your commitment to EDI and social value.
Who?
Summer of IP will be open to anyone who is interested in learning more about a career within IP. We hope to attract secondary school students, university students, graduates, and career changers. Promotion will target in particular people in currently under-represented groups.
When?
Our third Summer of IP campaign will take place during the summer of 2026. Our launch event, which will promote Summer of IP 2026 to careers advisors and outreach organisations, will take place on Wednesday 13 May.
The Summer of IP initiative is a fantastic example of how collectively we can make a difference.
Working with Summer of IP enabled us to reach a very diverse group of people who might not otherwise have been aware of the profession or our firm, some of whom subsequently applied for trainee roles during our recruitment rounds later in the year.
We received extremely positive feedback from the attendees and from our own staff.
A number of applicants cited the Summer of IP talk we gave as a source of inspiration, information and encouragement.
Careers in Ideas Events
A series of (largely online) events run by Careers in Ideas and covering a range of introductory topics. The aim is to spark a potential interest in IP careers and encourage individuals to apply for open days, work experience, or other opportunities with the partnering organisations.

Employers Events
Alongside our series of webinars, IP sector employers are invited to provide their own taster days, open events, work experience activities/ placements or mentoring opportunities under the Summer of IP banner.
We hope to include a range of activities that are targeted at different IP-related roles and at those who are at different stages of their education or career.
You choose your event format, content and target audience, and handle your own registration and application processes. We will advertise and promote your event on the Summer of IP 2026 webpage.
