Resources and Opportunities at the IPO

The UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) do a great deal of fabulous outreach work to educate everyone about IP. They have developed a range of free tools, guidance and teaching resources directed at students (at all levels), researchers and businesses, which can be used by anyone to learn how to manage or use IP.

Below the IPO summarise what’s on offer, including what’s available to help you discover how IP works, what can be protected and how IP can be utilised in business, as well as careers at the IPO!

About the UKIPO

The IPO is the official UK government body responsible for intellectual property (IP) rights including patents, designs, trade marks and copyright. We operate and maintain a clear and accessible intellectual property system in the UK, which encourages innovation and helps the economy and society to benefit from knowledge and ideas. We help people get the right type of protection for their creation or invention.

What support does the UKIPO offer?

A wide range of tools are available on our IP Support Page, which have been designed to help you with a variety of topics, whether you’re a business advisor, university lecturer, student, or anyone else who may be interesting in managing or utilising IP. These tools are free to use once you’ve registered.

The tools can help you understand how IP works and what can be protected using various IP rights. They can also assist you in leveraging IP to protect investments and products, as well as incorporating IP into your business planning.

The IPO includes the Customer Guidance and Outreach Team who travel the length and breadth of the UK supporting and educating customers on UK and international IP. We spread awareness of all things IP by attending large scale events, running workshops, and organising and facilitating Masterclasses in our office and across the UK.
