A paralegal is a legal assistant – someone with a good enough understanding of the law to support the work of a qualified lawyer, but who’s not generally qualified in law themselves.

“IP paralegal”, however, is a specific term for someone who specialises in the administrative side of a patent or trade mark attorney’s work, and they are typically qualified in their field.
