I found my way into social media and digital marketing through a combination of creative passion and practical experience. Initially, I worked as a digital media producer straight out of studying media production at university, which built up my skills in content creation and gave me insight into brand strategy. Later, I became the Head of Social Media for Fellows and Associates, an IP-focused recruitment firm, where I now lead the design and management of social campaigns and have developed a strong understanding of the unique needs of firms in intellectual property.
Working in these roles taught me the importance of creating value-driven content and maintaining a voice that resonates with audiences. My journey from recruitment-focused content to broader social media management for firms was a natural progression, and my current role as Head of Social Media at Fellows and Associates allows me to combine strategic vision with creativity.
As the Head of Social Media, my role is dynamic and requires me to balance creativity with strategy. I’m responsible for developing content that resonates with our audience in IP. No two days are the same—one moment I might be brainstorming content ideas or designing visuals, and the next I’m analysing metrics to see how we can better connect with our clients and candidates.
I love the creative aspect of my job, especially when it involves shaping a concept from an idea into a finished piece that people enjoy and connect with. I love seeing how each post or video can bring more personality to our brand.
Social media is always evolving, which means I’m constantly learning, experimenting, and finding fresh ways to engage. It’s rewarding to know that each project has the potential to make a real impact, whether it’s attracting a new client or sharing insights that showcase our expertise in a way that’s memorable.
I never expected to work in IP, but there are so many pathways to enter this industry. Even if becoming an attorney isn’t your goal, there are numerous other roles—like social media! Be open-minded and adaptable. Social media moves fast, and the ability to pivot and learn new trends will set you apart. Don’t underestimate the value of good communication skills; social media is all about engagement, and understanding your audience is key. Finally, never stop exploring—there’s always something new to learn or improve on in this field.
