Ashley Evans - IP Analyst / Data Scientist & Director
Job Title
IP Analyst / Data Scientist & Director
Detailed Information

When I finished my biochemistry degree I knew that the practical side of the course was not for me. Luckily I stumbled upon a career in Intellectual Property (IP), working as a patent analyst for a small IP research business. I really enjoyed applying my theoretical knowledge and problem solving skills to varied subject matter, including biotechnology, chemistry, medical device innovations and so much more. I have been very fortunate to work with major patent attorney firms, universities and companies throughout my career. As I developed my research and professional skills I became a senior IP manager.

However, after 10+ years a fresh challenge was needed. I embarked on a career change enrolling on a data science and analytics Masters course which provided me with an excellent foundation to work as a data scientist. Through a contact at the Intellectual Property Office I was able to propose and develop a research project using data engineering and statistical modelling to investigate UK innovative hubs and regional expertise from a patent perspective.

Now as a qualified data scientist and analytics professional with over 15 years of IP research experience, I have founded my own company Inevus Advanced Analytics Ltd, delivering IP research and analytics powered by data science. I regularly engage with brilliant clients working with high-tech innovations. I am fortunate to work in IP research and analytics, applying modern methods such as data science and artificial intelligence. I thoroughly enjoy the variety of work and the great people I engage with. I would highly recommend a career in IP, as there are excellent benefits and opportunities available.
